Trip overview

Overview

Some mountains are meant to be conquered. Others are meant to be experienced.

The Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek (4,500m) takes you deep into the quieter side of Nepal's Annapurna region, where ancient forests, mountain villages, open ridgelines, and towering Himalayan peaks come together in one unforgettable journey.

Starting with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, the adventure quickly leaves the city behind. From Kande, the trail climbs through peaceful forests and traditional mountain landscapes toward Pitam Deurali, before continuing through rhododendron-covered forests to Forest Camp and the spectacular ridge of Badal Danda.

As you climb higher, the character of the landscape changes. The dense forests gradually give way to open alpine terrain, the air becomes cooler and thinner, and the Himalayas begin to dominate the horizon. From High Camp at around 3,580m, the trail leads toward the ultimate objective-Mardi Himal Base Camp at approximately 4,500m.

Standing beneath the dramatic silhouette of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), with the Annapurna range stretching across the horizon, is the defining moment of the journey. The mountains feel close enough to touch, while the valleys and clouds lie far below.

But Mardi Himal is not only about reaching 4,500 meters.

  • It is the journey in between.

  • It is the sound of footsteps through rhododendron forests.

  • It is a warm cup of tea in a mountain teahouse.

  • It is watching the sunrise turn the Himalayas gold.

  • It is meeting people whose lives are deeply connected to the mountains.

  • It is walking above the clouds with nothing but the trail and the peaks ahead.

Why Mardi Himal?

Mardi Himal offers a rare combination of adventure, accessibility, natural beauty, and Himalayan solitude.

Compared with some of Nepal's longer Himalayan treks, Mardi Himal can deliver an extraordinary high-altitude experience within a relatively compact itinerary. The changing landscapes keep the journey exciting-from lush lower hills and forests to rugged alpine ridges and panoramic mountain viewpoints.

Along the way, trekkers can enjoy spectacular views of:

  • Machhapuchhre (Fishtail)

  • Annapurna South

  • Hiunchuli

  • Annapurna I

  • Annapurna II and surrounding peaks

The trail also passes through traditional communities where local culture, hospitality, and mountain life remain an important part of the experience.

The Journey

Your adventure begins in Kathmandu, followed by a scenic flight to Pokhara, Nepal's gateway to the Annapurna region. From Pokhara, a short drive takes you to Kande, where you begin trekking toward Pitam Deurali. From there, the trail continues through beautiful forests to Forest Camp and then upward to Badal Danda. At High Camp, the landscape opens dramatically. The next morning, you follow the ridge toward Mardi Himal Base Camp, reaching approximately 4,500m before descending back toward Badal Danda.

The trail then winds down through the mountains to Siding Village, followed by a drive back to Pokhara. After one final flight to Kathmandu, your Himalayan adventure comes to a close.

More Than a Trek

At Peak 15 Adventure, we believe the best journeys are not measured only by distance or altitude. They are measured by the moments you remember.

Mardi Himal gives you the opportunity to disconnect from the noise of everyday life and reconnect with something much bigger-the landscape, the people, the mountains, and yourself. Every section of the trail tells a different story.

  • Forest trails

  • Mountain villages

  • Cloud-covered valleys

  • High alpine ridges

  • The Himalayas in their full glory

Who Is This Trek For?

The Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek is ideal for travelers seeking a moderate Himalayan adventure without committing to an extremely long expedition.

It is well suited to:

  • First-time Himalayan trekkers with good fitness

  • Adventure seekers

  • Couples and friends

  • Small private groups

  • Nature and photography enthusiasts

  • Travelers looking for spectacular mountain views
