Fly to Lukla (2,860m/9,383ft) and Trek to Phakding (2,610m/8,563ft) (Approx. 4 hrs. trek)
The Peak15 Trek Guide and driver will promptly pick you up from your hotel and transport you to the Domestic Airport terminal. Expect a flight time of 3035 minutes. Note that while our company typically secures direct flights to Lukla from Kathmandu, due to safety regulations, a flight from Ramechhap airport is advisable, which involves about a four-hour drive from Kathmandu. Be prepared for possible delays, as Lukla is celebrated as the world’s most dangerous airport, and weather conditions can disrupt flight schedules.
On a clear day, the flight to Lukla offers breathtaking views above the clouds of iconic peaks such as Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Kongde Ri, Kusum Kanguru, Thamserku, and Ama Dablam. Upon landing, you’ll have breakfast prepared while you change and gear up for the trek ahead. We will embark on our first hike from Lukla to Phakding, a perfect warmup for the days ahead. After just a brief walk, we will reach Pasang Lhamu Memorial Gate, the first checkpoint, where you will receive your Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit and the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit.
The trail on day one features a mix of gradual uphill and downhill rocky paths, alongside several suspension bridges. Encountering mules, yaks, and jhokpas is a common sight along the route. We’ve meticulously planned this day to be the easiest of the trek, focusing on your safety with regular stops, a wellcharted path, and our experienced guides. Our first stop will be Chheplung, a traditional village in the region. Lunch will be served at Thado Koshigaon (2,580m/8,464ft). After lunch, we will pass through Ghat before reaching our destination, Phakding. Your guide will facilitate check-in, and tea will be served upon arrival. Enjoy some refreshment time, after which dinner will be served according to your preference, followed by a briefing for the next day.
Phakding, nestled amidst Alpine forests, is a charming village along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River. The decorated houses and vibrant flower gardens create a serene and picturesque environment. At the village’s end lies the Himalayan Sherpa Hospital, providing essential medical facilities—an important reassurance for your wellbeing during your stay.
Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,315ft) (Approx. 6 hrs. trek)
We will commence our trek to Namche Bazaar right after an energizing breakfast. Today’s route will feature both uphill and downhill stairs, alongside muddy and rocky trails, and numerous suspension bridges. The trek will take us through Toktok, Monjo, and Larja Dobhan before we arrive at Namche Bazaar. Expect a stop at the Sagarmatha National Park Entrance Gate in Monjo to check in your permits. Lunch will be enjoyed at Larja Dobhan, preparing you for the steep uphill for approximately three hours leading to Namche Bazaar, where another checkpoint waits just before you reach your destination.
You will be greeted in Namche Bazaar by a giant Mane Statue and traditional prayer wheels running with fresh waters of the Dudh Koshi. As the largest village in the Khumbu region, Namche Bazaar serves as a vital hub for trekkers, offering a vibrant atmosphere complemented by an array of amenities, including numerous restaurants, bars, shops, and galleries. Every Saturday, locals from surrounding villages gather here for their shopping needs. You’ll find various attractions such as the Sherpa Culture Museum, Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Center, Namche Monastery, Everest View Hotel, Namche Library, and Mountain Everest Documentation Center. For health and medical requirements, the village is well equipped with pharmacies, medical supply stores, and hospitals like Kunde Hospital, Himalayan Rescue Association Aid Post, Namche Dental Clinic, and Everest ER.
This day poses one of the toughest challenges of our trek. In preparation for the journey ahead, we will have an early dinner, followed by a thorough briefing session designed to equip you with all crucial information and strategies, ensuring you are ready and confident for the days to come.
Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar (3,446m)
Today, we will fully utilize our acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar. We’ll kick off the morning with a challenging hike to Everest View Hotel (3,880m) right after breakfast, which will take approximately 23 hours. The steep ascent to Everest View Hotel will test our endurance, but it’s worth every step. This vantage point offers stunning panoramic views of iconic peaks including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and Thamserku. The Everest View Hotel is popular among luxury travelers eager to catch a glimpse of Mount Everest in a short timeframe, some even opting for helicopter rides from Kathmandu directly to breakfast at the hotel.
Following our visit to Everest View Hotel, we will proceed to the Greenovative Center at Syangboche, also known as Sagarmatha Next. This educational hub highlights innovative waste management practices and invites everyone to engage in the ‘Carry Me Back’ recycling campaign. It’s imperative to understand the critical impact of effective waste management and recycling on our environment.
Upon returning to Namche Bazaar, we’ll visit the Sherpa Museum. This museum is a treasure trove showcasing the unique culture, traditions, and history of the Sherpa community along with the rich mountaineering history that surrounds these majestic mountains. It is essential for us to grasp the lives of the mountain communities who thrive in the shadows of the world’s highest peaks.
We will enjoy lunch and dinner at our hotel. After dinner, expect a thorough briefing to prepare us for the challenges that lie ahead.
on.
Trek to Tengboche (3,860m/12,664ft) (Approx. 6 hrs. trek)
We will begin our trek with a gradual uphill climb and short stair sections, followed by a smooth downhill forest trail until we reach Phungi Thanga. We will start early, as usual, after breakfast. Today’s trail showcases continuous, breathtaking views of Ama Dablam, which will grow more prominent as we advance. We will stop for lunch at Phungi Thanga before tackling the steep ascent to Tengboche.
At Tengboche, we’ll visit the majestic Tengboche Monastery, the largest in the Khumbu region. This location offers awe inspiring views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. The confluence of natural beauty, spiritual significance, and rich cultural heritage here makes it an essential destination for trekkers and spiritual seekers alike. Additionally, Tengboche benefits from minimal light pollution, allowing for extraordinary stargazing opportunities in the clear high altitude sky, a magical experience that will leave a lasting impression.
After an early dinner, our guide will conduct a comprehensive briefing to ensure everyone is fully prepared for the next day’s trek.
Trek to Dingboche (4,410m/14,468ft) (Approx. 6 hrs. trek)
Our trail from Tengboche is designed for accessibility, combining downhill and flat sections. As we make our way to Dingboche, we’ll encounter a manageable but prolonged trail. With the rise in elevation, some challenges will arise. We’ll pass through open fields and tackle some small climbs until we reach Dingboche, where a breathtaking panoramic view of Mount Everest, Mount Makalu, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam awaits us. We will stop for lunch at Shomare to refuel for the remaining trek.
Dingboche, surrounded by mountains and hills, attracts many trekkers seeking its wellequipped facilities, including essential shopping options for gear and clothing. It’s the final village well supported with medical services, rescue options, and lodging. The Mountain Medical Institute, located centrally, ensures adequate medical care.
After an early dinner at our hotel, we’ll hold a group discussion to promptly address any health concerns and prepare everyone for the next day’s trek. A detailed briefing will follow, equipping you with all the vital information for a successful and fulfilling trekking experience.
Acclimatization Day at Dingboche
We will be doing an extra acclimatization day at Dingboche. Today, we will have breakfast a little later than the following days. We will start our hike to Nagarjun Hill after our breakfast. The trail will be a steep rocky climb, passing each flag every 100 meters. We will be hiking up to 4,800m, which will take approx. 34 hrs. From the top, get ready to be awestruck by the breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Makalu, Mount Lhotse, Shartse II, Island Peak, Cho Polu, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and many more Himalayan Peaks.
Today is also a great opportunity to clean your clothes or buy any layers or gear you might need. We will have lunch and dinner at our hotel, and a briefing will be provided afterward.
Trek to Lobuche (4,910/16,108m) (Approx. 5 hrs. trek)
We will have a little late start after breakfast. We will follow the same trail we followed the day before for the first 30 minutes of the start; then, we will head towards the left side, separating the trail between Nagarjun Hill and Lobuche. The trail will be a gradual climb with an open grassland space. The range of mountains will start getting more expansive as we approach the trail ahead. We will see the eagleeye view of Pheriche Village on the way. After about 2 hours of the trek, we will arrive at Thukla, where we will stop for lunch. This point will be very crowded as it’s a familiar spot for lunch for people approaching from different sides of the trails.
After lunch there will be approx. 40 mins of steep rocky climb until Thukla Pass where we will see the Memorials of Mountaineers who lost their lives climbing the mountains of this region. This is a significant and solemn moment, and we will stop there for snacks and picture sessions, taking a moment to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of these mountaineers. We will then follow the rocky trail towards Lobuche.
After we reach Lobuche we will have our tea and food. Lobuche is a very small village filled with small tea houses and restaurants. This place is usually very crowded since a lot of trekkers and climbers going and returning to and from Everest Base Camp, Three Passes, Iceland Peak and other peaks have a stop there. We will have an early dinner and go to bed early, ensuring we are well rested for the next day’s trek. We will then have a quick but important postdinner briefing to keep everyone informed and prepared for the next day’s adventure.
Trek to EBC (5,364m/17598ft ) ( Appox. 5 hours trek )
Our journey to Everest basecamp begins with an early morning breakfast. The trails are rugged, with loose rocks and single tracks. We will follow the Khumbu Glacier, a route that promises a truly scenic experience. Upon reaching Gorak Shep, we will have a light meal and leave most of our belongings at the tea house, a comfortable resting place with basic amenities, before continuing our adventure to Everest Base Camp.
Everest Base Camp, a campsite for climbers aiming for Mount Everest, offers awe inspiring views. It is the South Base Camp from Nepal, with a North Base Camp from Tibet. We will witness breathtaking views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, Changtse, Khubutse, Lingtren, and Kala Patthar from Everest Base Camp.
