One of the best places in the world to go birdwatching is Nepal, a small country with a vast height range (60 m to 8,848 m) and a variety of habitats that support over 900 species, including migratory birds and several Himalayan endemics. A brief guide on organizing a birdwatching trip in Nepal

Lowland Terai (highest overall species diversity): Chitwan NP, Bardia NP, Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, Jhapa/Riverine forests; great for raptors, hornbills, Bengal florican (seasonal), Pallas’s fish-eagle, and dense migrant assemblages.
Shivapuri and the Kathmandu Valley are ideal for winter migrants, neighboring hill species, and restocking.
The foothills of Pokhara and Annapurna are home to sunbirds, pheasants, laughingthrushes, and Himalayan foothill species.
Snowfinches, rosefinches, Himalayan rubythroat, and Himalayan monal (higher meadows, rhododendron forests) can be found in Langtang, Manang, and Mustang (mid-to-high elevations).
Himalayan endemics, mixed-species flocks, and several chestnut-capped, satyr, and stripe-throated species are found in the Eastern Himalaya (Taplejung, Ilam).

Day 01:

Arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport – Kathmandu (1,400 m)

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, Peak15 representative will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in and some rest, enjoy an optional short birding walk around nearby gardens.
In the evening, join a brief orientation about your upcoming trek and birding journey. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02:

Drive Kathmandu → Syabrubesi (1,470 m | 7–8 hrs

After breakfast, Peak15adventure guides and team will begin a scenic drive to Syabrubesi, the gateway to the Langtang Valley. The journey follows the Trishuli River, winding through terraced fields, villages, and forested hills, with occasional Himalayan views. Overnight at a lodge in Syabrubesi.

Day 03:

Trek & Birding Syabrubesi → Lama Hotel (2,480 m | 6 hrs)

Start trekking along the Langtang Khola through lush forests of oak, rhododendron, and bamboo. This section offers excellent birding opportunities, including Scaly Laughingthrush, Black-faced Warbler, and Yellow-billed Blue Magpie. Overnight at Lama Hotel.

Day 04:

Trek & Birding Lama Hotel → Langtang Village (3,430 m | 6–7 hrs)

Continue ascending through forests and alpine landscapes. Birding highlights may include Darjeeling Woodpecker, Himalayan Monal, and leaf finches. As the valley opens up, enjoy spectacular views of Langtang Lirung before reaching Langtang Village. Overnight stay at a local lodge.

Day 05:

Trek & Birding Langtang Village → Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m | 3–4 hrs)

A gradual ascent through alpine meadows leads to Kyanjin Gompa. En route, look for Alpine Accentor, Himalayan Griffon, and Bearded Vulture. Optional hike to Kyanjin Ri offers panoramic mountain views and chances to spot Tibetan Snowcock. Overnight at Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 06:

Excursion Day – Tserko Base & Riverbank Birding

Early morning hike toward Tserko Base, scanning rocky slopes for Snow Partridge. After lunch, explore nearby riverbanks for Ibisbill and other riverine species. Overnight at Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 07:

Trek Kyanjin Gompa → Rimche (2,380 m | 6–7 hrs)

Descend through alpine meadows and forested trails, revisiting Langtang Village and Ghoda Tabela. Enjoy additional birding opportunities along the way. Overnight at Rimche.

Day 08:

Trek Lama Hotel → Syabrubesi (1,470 m | 5 hrs)

Continue descending through lush forests rich in birdlife. Possible sightings include Fire-tailed Sunbird and Snow Pigeon. Arrive in Syabrubesi and relax. Overnight at a lodge.

Day 09:

Drive Syabrubesi → Chitwan National Park (150 m | 8–9 hrs)

Drive to the lowland jungles of Chitwan, passing rivers, hills, and rural settlements. Upon arrival, check in to your jungle lodge and enjoy an optional Tharu cultural program. Overnight in Chitwan.

Day 10:

Birding in Chitwan National Park

Explore the park through guided jungle walks or canoe rides along riverbanks. Spot kingfishers, storks, and a variety of wetland birds, along with wildlife such as deer and monkeys. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 11:

Full-Day Jungle Safari & Birdwatching**

A full day dedicated to wildlife exploration—jeep safaris, canoe rides, and forest walks. Look out for the iconic one-horned rhinoceros and diverse bird species across habitats. Overnight in Chitwan.

Day 12:

Drive Chitwan → Kathmandu (5–6 hrs)

Return to Kathmandu through scenic countryside. After arrival, relax or explore the city at your leisure. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 13:

Birding at Phulchowki Hill & Godawari Forest

Spend the day birdwatching in one of the richest birding areas near Kathmandu. Highlights include Striated Laughingthrush, Himalayan Cutia, fulvettas, Small Niltava, and Sikkim Treecreeper. Return to Kathmandu for your final overnight stay.
