Trek to Khangpachen/Kambachen (4050 m/13284 ft) (Approx. 6 hrs. trek)
We kick off the day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a gradual ascent through an open pine forest. Today, we will traverse several landslideprone areas, waterfalls, and glacier valleys along the way. As we cross the bridge at Tampuk Kharka, you’ll be treated to the stunning waterfall on the right side of the trail. After navigating the landslide area, prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking view of Mt. Jannu/Kumbhakarna (7711m). We’ll pass through vibrant meadows filled with wildflowers, rhododendrons, and pine forests along our rocky path to Kambachen. Keep your eyes peeled for blue sheep, as we rely on our snacks for energy throughout the day before settling in for the night at Kambachen. Expect a briefing about the next day after dinner.
Kambachen is predominantly inhabited by the Sherpa people and is celebrated for its stunning landscapes, featuring glaciers, moraines, deep valleys, and unspoiled alpine meadows. The village boasts remarkable panoramic views of majestic snowcapped peaks, including Kanchenjunga (8,586 meters/28,169 feet), the third highest mountain in the world. Acclimatization at Kambachen
Today, we will spend another night at Kambachen to acclimatize properly. This important day allows us time to reflect on our previous trekking days and assess our health to prevent any future issues. You’ll have multiple options for a day hike, choosing to explore the Nupchu Khola Valley, visit nearby glaciers, trek to the Kumbhakarna viewpoint, or head towards the Tibet border. Your choice of trail will depend on your interests and current condition. The Kumbhakarna viewpoint (4,420m) is a 23 hour hike that offers incredible Himalayan scenery.
From Kambachen, it takes about 45 hours to get close to the Tibet Border. Expect a somewhat unclear trail with several open yak paths, but along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning views of Kumbhakarna and Chang Himal (6,802 m).
Trek to Lhonak (4780 m/15678 ft)(Approx. 7 hrs. trek)
After a substantial breakfast, we set out on our trek to Lhonak. We will navigate rocky fields and large boulders along the riverbank. After passing a waterfall, we’ll cross a bridge to Ramtang Monastery, follow the Kanchenjunga Glacier, and make our way through a landslide area until we reach Lhonak. Look out for Lhonak Glacier on the left side of the trail just before we arrive at our destination.
Lhonak serves as a critical acclimatization point for mountaineers heading for the summit of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586 m). Here, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of towering peaks such as Wedge Peak (6802m), Mera Peak (6364m), Nepal Peak (7177m), Twins (7350m), and more. Basic tea houses and lodges are available at Lhonak, all set against the captivating landscape of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area.

Following a different path from Ghunsa, we’ll leave behind the Ghunsa Khola and make our way through a dense forest filled with moss, rhododendrons, and juniper trees. Along the way, we’ll catch glimpses of isolated human settlements and a few tea houses, which come alive only during the main trekking season. If the weather cooperates, we can look forward to stunning views of majestic peaks like Jannu (7710m), Nyukla Laching (6670m), and Temachunggi (6044m) from our destination. Midway through our trek, we’ll stop for some snacks to keep our energy up. Later, we’ll enjoy dinner at Sele Le Base Camp, followed by an exciting briefing about what’s in store for us the next day.
Trek to Tseram (3868m/12690ft) (Approx. 7 hrs. trek)
Get ready for another rewarding day as we prepare to cross several significant passes: Sele La Pass (4480m), Sinion La (4646m), Mirgin La, and Sinelapche Bhanjyang. After indulging in a big breakfast, we’ll set off, and as we gain altitude, we have the chance to witness breathtaking views of the Yalung Glacier, Jannu (7710m), Everest (8848.86m), Makalu (8481m), Baruntse (7129m), Chamlang (7319m), Kanchenjunga (8586m), and other stunning mountain ranges along the Sikkim border. As we make our descent toward Tseram, a village located by the Yamgachha Khola, we’ll find a few teahouses welcoming trekkers. Tomorrow morning, we’ll start with an early breakfast, followed by a descent through the picturesque Simbuwa Khola, where we’ll be greeted by enchanting views of the Himalayas. Trek to Amjilosa (2395m/7570 ft) (Approx. 6 hrs. trek)
We’ll commence the day with an early breakfast, filled with anticipation as we set off on our trek to Amjilosa (2395m/7570ft). Crossing a suspension bridge, we’ll dive into the dense rhododendron and bamboo forests en route to Jongim. The steep trails and river crossings promise an exhilarating experience.
After navigating through Lamatar and ascending alongside the mesmerizing Ghunsa Khola, we’ll reach Amjilosa, a charming settlement surrounded by majestic mountains. The tea houses here may be simple, but the warmth and hospitality of the locals will envelop us, making our night’s stay truly memorable.
Trek to Gyabla/Kyapra (2730 m /8954 ft) (Approx. 5 hrs. trek)
With a hearty breakfast fueling us, we’ll take on the trail alongside Ghunsa Khola, excited about the beautiful bamboo and fir forests yet to come. Though we may not encounter settlements today, there’s a chance for some delightful surprises, like spotting Red Pandas.
As we make our way to Gyabla, a sensory treat of scenic waterfalls and tranquil paths awaits us. We’ll enjoy dinner in this quaint Tibetan settlement, looking forward to sharing tales of our adventures during our evening briefing.
Trek to Ghunsa (3595 m/11792 ft) (Approx. 5 hrs. trek)
We will start the day energized by breakfast, ready to embrace the journey towards Ghunsa (3595m), eager for the breathtaking sights that lie ahead. The path through expansive meadows and vibrant Sherpa villages is bound to be picturesque.
Our lunch stop at Phale will give us a chance to savor local flavors before continuing through juniper and larch forests towards Ghunsa. As the serene mountain air envelops us, we’ll relish the gradual and steep ascents.
Upon arriving in Ghunsa, nestled below the soaring Kangchenjunga, we’ll spend our night marveling at the beauty around us. The village, steeped in history, will surely provide captivating stories in our evening briefing.

Trek to Khangpachen/Kambachen (4050 m/13284 ft) (Approx. 6 hrs. trek)
We kick off the day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a gradual ascent through an open pine forest. Today, we will traverse several landslideprone areas, waterfalls, and glacier valleys along the way. As we cross the bridge at Tampuk Kharka, you’ll be treated to the stunning waterfall on the right side of the trail. After navigating the landslide area, prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking view of Mt. Jannu/Kumbhakarna (7711m). We’ll pass through vibrant meadows filled with wildflowers, rhododendrons, and pine forests along our rocky path to Kambachen. Keep your eyes peeled for blue sheep, as we rely on our snacks for energy throughout the day before settling in for the night at Kambachen. Expect a briefing about the next day after dinner.
Kambachen is predominantly inhabited by the Sherpa people and is celebrated for its stunning landscapes, featuring glaciers, moraines, deep valleys, and unspoiled alpine meadows. The village boasts remarkable panoramic views of majestic snowcapped peaks, including Kanchenjunga (8,586 meters/28,169 feet), the third highest mountain in the world. Trekkers are consistently rewarded with mesmerizing vistas during their journey, making Kambachen an essential rest point for those heading towards the Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek.
Acclimatization at Kambachen
Today, we will spend another night at Kambachen to acclimatize properly. This important day allows us time to reflect on our previous trekking days and assess our health to prevent any future issues. You’ll have multiple options for a day hike, choosing to explore the Nupchu Khola Valley, visit nearby glaciers, trek to the Kumbhakarna viewpoint, or head towards the Tibet border. Your choice of trail will depend on your interests and current condition. The Kumbhakarna viewpoint (4,420m) is a 23 hour hike that offers incredible Himalayan scenery.
From Kambachen, it takes about 45 hours to get close to the Tibet Border. Expect a somewhat unclear trail with several open yak paths, but along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning views of Kumbhakarna and Chang Himal (6,802 m).
Trek to Lhonak (4780 m/15678 ft)(Approx. 7 hrs. trek)
After a substantial breakfast, we set out on our trek to Lhonak. We will navigate rocky fields and large boulders along the riverbank. After passing a waterfall, we’ll cross a bridge to Ramtang Monastery, follow the Kanchenjunga Glacier, and make our way through a landslide area until we reach Lhonak. Look out for Lhonak Glacier on the left side of the trail just before we arrive at our destination.
Lhonak serves as a critical acclimatization point for mountaineers heading for the summit of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586 m). Here, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of towering peaks such as Wedge Peak (6802m), Mera Peak (6364m), Nepal Peak (7177m), Twins (7350m), and more. Basic tea houses and lodges are available at Lhonak, all set against the captivating landscape of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area.
Hike to Kanchenjunga Base Camp (5143m/16870ft) and return to Lhonak (4780 m/15678 ft) (Approx. 7 hrs. trek)
We rise early today for a gradual climb towards the open meadow and moraines, navigating rocky sections alongside the Kanchenjunga Glacier to reach Mt. Kanchenjunga’s north base camp, also known as Pang Pema. This grassy base camp, adorned with prayer flags, marks the Kanchenjunga Base Camp. On a clear day, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Kirat Chuli (Tent Peak)(7362m), Nepal Peak(7177m), Taple Shikar (Cross Peak)(6447m), Gimmigela Chuli (the Twins)(7350m), and the stunning Kanchenjunga (8586m). We will take the time to soak in the beautiful energy of the area while enjoying our snacks. After relishing the experience, we’ll make our way back to Lhonak, retracing our steps down the moraines and rocky paths along the Kanchenjunga Glacier. Dinner will be served at Lhonak, followed by a briefing for the following day.
Trek to Ghunsa(3595 m/11792 ft) (Approx. 8 hrs. trek)
After breakfast, we’ll retrace our steps to Ghunsa, taking in the stunning views of the base camp. We’ll follow the same route via Khangpachen and Rampuk Kharka, passing small huts, beautiful meadows, and cascading waterfalls alongside the Ghunsa Khola, leading us to the picturesque Sherpa village of Ghunsa. Before settling in, we’ll checkout our KCAP permits at the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area office in Ghunsa. We’ll stop for snacks along the trail, with dinner served upon our arrival at Ghunsa, followed by a briefing for the next day.
Trek to Sele Le Base Camp (4240m/13910ft)(Approx. 6 hrs. trek)
As we prepare for another adventurous day, the excitement grows knowing we will gain around 700m of elevation toward Sele Le Base Camp. We’ll kick off our morning with a hearty breakfast, fueling ourselves for the journey ahead. Following a different path from Ghunsa, we’ll leave behind the Ghunsa Khola and make our way through a dense forest filled with moss, rhododendrons, and juniper trees. Along the way, we’ll catch glimpses of isolated human settlements and a few tea houses, which come alive only during the main trekking season. If the weather cooperates, we can look forward to stunning views of majestic peaks like Jannu (7710m), Nyukla Laching (6670m), and Temachunggi (6044m) from our destination. Midway through our trek, we’ll stop for some snacks to keep our energy up. Later, we’ll enjoy dinner at Sele Le Base Camp, followed by an exciting briefing about what’s in store for us the next day.
Trek to Tseram (3868m/12690ft) (Approx. 7 hrs. trek)
Get ready for another rewarding day as we prepare to cross several significant passes: Sele La Pass (4480m), Sinion La (4646m), Mirgin La, and Sinelapche Bhanjyang. After indulging in a big breakfast, we’ll set off, and as we gain altitude, we have the chance to witness breathtaking views of the Yalung Glacier, Jannu (7710m), Everest (8848.86m), Makalu (8481m), Baruntse (7129m), Chamlang (7319m), Kanchenjunga (8586m), and other stunning mountain ranges along the Sikkim border. As we make our descent toward Tseram, a village located by the Yamgachha Khola, we’ll find a few teahouses welcoming trekkers. We’ll plan for snack breaks along the way, and once we arrive, dinner will be served at the teahouse, accompanied by a briefing to build excitement for the adventures ahead.
Trek to Tortong (2980m/9776ft) (Approx. 7 hrs. trek)
Tomorrow morning, we’ll start with an early breakfast, followed by a descent through the picturesque Simbuwa Khola, where we’ll be greeted by enchanting views of the Himalayas. Along the trail, we’re eager to explore streams, Chortens, monasteries, ponds, and waterfalls as we traverse through lush rhododendron forests. Arriving at Tortong promises to be a highlight, with its breathtaking beauty and serene atmosphere surrounded by majestic mountains and verdant landscapes. We’re sure to find the warm and welcoming locals embody the rich cultural heritage of this region. We will stop for snacks in between the trail and look forward to a delightful dinner at the teahouse in Tortong, followed by an engaging briefing about what lies ahead.
Trek to Yamphudin (1693m/3910ft) (Approx. 7 hrs. trek)
With excitement in the air, we’ll begin our day with an early breakfast before descending toward Amji Khola. As we cross Lasiya/Lamite Bhanjyang (3310m) and Dhupi Bhanjyang (2620m), our journey will take us toward Yamphudin, a charming village with a blend of Sherpa, Rai, Limbu, and Gurung cultures amidst stunning forests and terraced fields. We anticipate stopping at the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area check post in Yamphudin, where our permits will be checked, marking another milestone in our adventure. The fertile land here allows villagers to cultivate crops such as maize, rice, millet, and vegetables. We’re optimistic about enjoying snack breaks along the trail and dinner at the teahouse in Yamphudin, where the briefing of the next day’s activities will surely add to our excitement.
Trek to Khebang (1915m/6282ft) (Approx. 6 hrs. trek)
After breakfast, we will eagerly descend to Khebang, crossing several suspension bridges over Kabeli Khola. As we pass multiple small villages and farmlands, the scenery will remind us of the beauty we’ve experienced, with cascading waterfalls adding to the joy. Transitioning from the mountainous region to lowlands will feel refreshing, allowing us to appreciate the clean air of the forests. Khebang, surrounded by green farmlands and forests, is home to small settlements of Limbu, Gurung, and Rai communities who rely on farming and animal husbandry. We foresee delightful snack breaks on our trek and a hearty dinner at the teahouse in Khebang, followed by an enticing briefing for the next day’s journey.
Drive to Kanyam (1210m/3969 ft) (Approx. 8 hrs. drive)
As our last day of exploration begins, we’ll roam around the tea gardens in Kanyam, savoring breakfast and soaking in the surroundings before preparing for our drive back to the capital. The morning journey to Bhadrapur holds the promise of new experiences as we head back to Kathmandu, bringing with us a treasure trove of memories from our unforgettable trekking adventure.
Drive to Kanyam (1210m/3969 ft) (Approx. 8 hrs. drive)
After breakfast, we’ll set off on a drive from Khebang to Kanyam, filled with anticipation. The scenic route will take us past numerous cardamom and tea cultivation fields, and as we journey further into the lowlands, we’ll reflect on the unforgettable memories made in the high altitudes. Enjoying the vibrant life of locals visible through the jeep window will surely enhance our experience. Arriving in Kanyam, home to lush tea gardens, we’ll look forward to spending the night here, mingling with local tourists. During our journey, we’ll have snacks along the way, culminating in a delightful dinner at our hotel in Kanyam, with a briefing that promises more exciting adventures ahead.
Drive to Bhadrapur (Approx. 3 hrs. drive) and Fly back to Kathmandu
