Profile

Mr. Abiral Rai is a certified IFMGA, UIAGM, and NNMGA mountain guide, as well as an accomplished adventure photographer based in Nepal. With over a decade of experience, he has led expedition teams to more than 20 mountains in Nepal, including iconic peaks such as Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Manaslu.

Mr. Rai holds the distinction of being the first IFMGA-certified guide from the Rai community, an indigenous group from eastern Nepal, and is also the first Everest summiteer from the Thulung Rai community.

Mr. Rai’s Experience

With 13 years of experience in the mountaineering and tourism industries, Mr. Rai has a diverse background. He began his career as a porter and later transitioned to becoming a trekking guide before achieving his current role as a professional mountain guide. He has successfully led numerous expeditions to 6,000- and 8,000-meter peaks, showcasing his expertise in high-altitude mountaineering.

In addition to his guiding career, Mr. Rai is a talented adventure photographer. His work has been featured in national and international documentaries, including the acclaimed “The Last Honey Hunter” by National Geographic in 2017. He also played a key role in leading the Nepal Army’s 2022 Everest expedition as part of the Government of Nepal’s Mountain Clean-up Campaign.
